Hayley Johnson is a painter and mixed media artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Her works use the human form to explore identity and relationship
Johnson’s latest body of work uses Christian religious imagery to subvert the expectations of otherness that define the southern-queer experience. She questions arbitrary dividers that have isolated and shamed queer folk in a heteronormative society by embracing a narrative of radical inclusivity. Through the queerification of traditional Christian themes in art she hopes to make a space for viewers to reflect upon their participation in upholding the heteronormative ideals pervade society.
